What do you mean by "shut off the default database"? You can have both open at the same time. I had an app where four databases were simultaneously open, no problem. Not sure I tried to keep them open exclusively in an exe, but surely happened within development, no problem at all. You may Set Database To at some point, i.e. you may switch from one database to another at times, if needed, but AFAIK that's pretty much all the trouble there is.
