near as I can remember -
the MS ole db manager had some problems with the mysql drivers.
it wasn't the mysql driver writer's fault - there was something about the ms ole db manager software, which had hooks into the CA. I pitched it in favor of pure/straight odbc about a year ago, as I remember - but ? perhaps things have changed.
