I'd say a big reason would be marketing. No matter how good a product is when there is no marketing done on it potential customer could think that the product is not that good.

But in reverse a business with very aggressive marketing on a given product will get to sell it even when the product in question could be inferior to other products.

I don't mean that VB is not good it's just that VFP did'nt have the same marketing advantage as his step-brother.
