Well, I don't think the respect has anything to do with the quality of the info... :)

I think I understand what you mean. I also spent a lot of time in the newsgroups. In some of them as a passive reader (lurker?) , in others activelly. I agree that from time to time I've seen solutions that I've never found here on UT. The same goes for UT also. Ie: the info is not exactly the same on these 2 places.

But, IMO, if I compare the raport of the useful info vs. the "noise" on UT and on the newsgroups, UT it's much better. It's true that I may miss something on the newsgroups, but if I have to read 1000 messages to find something useful... it's just too much. I prefer to read books, look for other sources of info.

Another argument for the quality of info would be the way it is organized. It's much easier to find something here on UT than on newsgroups. And this increases the quality of info for me. (Because I can extract the useful from the noise much easier...)

An other aspect that I don't like on newsgroups (and that gives low info quality, IMO) is the fact that the same question is posted in several groups. This generates several similar threads with same or similar replies and it makes it very difficult to follow. You know, my time is limited... I may be missing something on newsgroups, but I gain all the time.

So, I consider that the return on my time investment is better here than on newsgroups.

BTW and with no connection with the above :): Congrats for your MVP award!
