after reading through your thread -
I will suggest three options:

1. Do some Word Automation, first generating a single table that holds everything you need [header, detail, footer]. Then Gen the 'thing' you want in word, and then email out the word document.
2. Do the same thing as #1, but save it within Word as RTF. RTF, contrary to some, is a highly portable document format.
3. Do the same thing as #1, but save it within Word as HTML file.

and of course - there is Crystal Reports.
