If the .TRN file is the backup file, it can contain multiple backups. You can use the RESTORE HEADERONLY command do view the headers of the backups within the file.

>I am pretty sure that I have an issue with my maintenance plan. When the transaction log backup job is started it does not seem to stop. I used the database mainentnace place wizard to create the plan and all seemed to go well. Then we had to double the size of the table through a series of mass imports. This caused the drive with the transaction log to become to full. After resolving that issue (in process of getting new server) I had to point the backup jobs to an external HD for storage. Now three of the four parts of the plan work just fine, however, when the tlog portion starts it never seems to end even though there is no activity on the server or the external HD. Also, when I checked the drive I found the .trn file was actually there and was 13Gb in size, the size of the tlog file is only 600Mb in size. What could be going on here?
