It goes back to the days of DOS as an end-of-file character. If you look on most ASCII charts you'll see it as EOF.

VFP even allows you to save files with these special EOF characters if they are required. Look at the properties dialog from a MODI FILE edit window.

So it's not a VFP bug, you'll have to go all the way back to the guys that invented ASCII to report this one. *s*
