Good morning Gary;

One of my wife’s sisters is a citizen of Peru, where she owns property. She has a daughter in Los Angeles and a son in Edmonton, Alberta. Every year or so she will travel to see each of her children and their families. This year things were a “little different”.

My sister-in-law has never overstayed her allowed time in the United States or Canada, and she has been visiting for over 20 years. This time she was on her way to Los Angeles from Edmonton, when the Canadian authorities stopped her. No problem with her visa or passport – they required something new! She was told she had to have a ticket from Edmonton to Lima. She had a ticket from Edmonton to Los Angeles, and her round trip ticket was from Los Angeles to Lima. That did not meet the requirements as they told her “You are trying to immigrate illegally into Canada”! Gee, I thought she was leaving!

To make a long story short my sister-in-law was put on a plane and flown to Lima and not allowed to enter the United States. Needless to say she had to pay for the ticket. She is still trying to get reimbursed for the last half of her round trip ticket from Los
Angeles to Lima. By the way the United States Embassy in Lima approved her request to return to Los Angeles, for the birth of her daughters first child.

When you are off of your own turf things can be difficult. Even on your own terra firma you meet authorities that control your life.

As is true anywhere in the world, any authority figure is like God. Or at least some think so! You meet all kinds of people wherever you go.

Tom

>Actually, I believe Canadians have a harder time getting (back) into Canada than non-Canadians ...
>
>It's an ego / power trip that Canadian (Nazi) border guards play out on the "locals" that they wouldn't dare try on "foreigners" ... (I've never had a problem "getting out"; getting (back) in was the problem). Simpletons hoping to make the big "bust" (or they just like going thru "wearunders").
>
>If you want to get into Canada, just claim "refugee status"; even if you're from the States ... It's worth 3 squares and a bottom-feeding immigration lawyer for at least 6 months (free!).

>>You do not need a passport if you are born in the US.
>>
>>Proof of ID, residence, citizenship should be more than adequate. Driver's License...Birth Certificate...Social Security Card....I've traveled the other way CAN==? US by plane with an expired passport and it was ok.
