I have not seen it documented. However, I think this is (more or less) standard Windows behavior, and not any specific invention of VFP.

I tell my users that the standard Windows key to advance to the next control is TAB (try pressing ENTER in a Word dialog!), and not ENTER or arrow-down, and that the use of other keys can have unintended side-effects.

Of course, if users have to input lots of numbers, ENTER is closer at hand than TAB, so they usually press ENTER. However, IMO, while you might redefine ENTER in some very specific cases, in the general case they should be told what to expect with different kinds of controls. After all, you don't want to make your interface too different from standard Windows.

This is more a problem for people accustomed to DOS; but they should gradually be educated to the Windows interface.
