As far as I can tell the DateTime control lists dates to choose from and I need the user to have the functionality to select any date, not from a long list. I was thinking of using the Calendar control, but was really asking about UI Design rather than specific controls. I'm looking for the best way to offer entry and date selection with 2 date textboxes.

The MS DateTime Picker control is a combo with the textbox part where user can enter date and dropdown calendar to select date from. Seems like exactly what you're looking for.
