experiment. Typically, I'll run a CHKDSK maintainance, and then defrag. I do it about once a week.

>>Last night, I decided to run the first with the hope that CHKDSK would take less time.

>>So - I run Disk Clean Up, and clear my cache (emptied the "Temporay Internet Files" folder. I leave my network connections open (and modem on).

>>I start defrag and close the office. I come back, ready to shutown and restart so the scheduled CHKDSK will run. Before I do, I run Disk Clean again, and low and behold, there are 1.5 MB (1500KB) of temporary internet files. I look at the files. There is a BMP (a question mark with a circle around it), some XML files and JavaScript. There were in the IE subfolder.

>>How (and why) are these files ending up on my system? No one was using the system!
