I got an interesting question today from the sponsors/advertisers of a messageboard website I run for drag boat racing. They want to know what it would take to broadcast audio clips from the website. yeah i know - first thing to smack you upside the head is "bandwidth" and a dedicated server... that's not a problem. Problem is I'm multimedia clueless, and i dont even know where to begin researching this to put together a proposal.

Scenario - somebody goes to a race and plays virtual announcer, and records audio for the day's events. Then that audio is made available to registered members for their listening pleasure. Live audio would be killer... lots of folks would gladly pay a decent subscription fee for a service like that, but i guess that's what they call "streaming audio"? Anybody know whats involved with broadcasting live audio? I was looking at www.shoutcast.com where you have like an internet radio service, but it was abit over my head :(

And even just posting pre-recorded audio clips would be really cool... we could live with that, especially since one the site sponsors already has a mobile satellite uplink setup that he takes to the races for uploading and pictures and video. Except I dont enough about this stuff to figure out what equipment the announcer would need to take to the race for recording purposes.

any advice or info to get me pointed in the right direction would be most appreciated! TIA!!!
