We have had forces in those countries but they are not states or even common wealths except for some. American Soma, Guam, and the Virgin Islands are all territories; Puerto Rico, Washington D.C. and the Northern Mariana Islands are commonwealths. As to Guam and Puerto Rico, the voters have continued to vote to keep their status in every election so that is their own choice. I do not know about the others listed above. However, as to the below:

Cuba - you're kidding, right?

Nicaragua - I was there myself just over 10 years ago.

I know that the U.S. landed for two days in 1853 to protect American lives during political disturbances. However they did land again in 1854 and burned down Greytown to avenge an insult made to the American Minister. In 1857 the Navy received the surrender of William Walker after his having to create his united country in Central America that I think he started in 1855. However, it was disavowed by the Secretary of State and the commander was forced into retirement. Walker's assistance was requested by Nicaragua when the Liberal Party was losing its fight with the Conservative Party. He double-crossed the Liberals and made himself president. That's what happens when you request the assistance of a soldier of fortune! I believe the British captured him in 1860 and he was executed by Hondurans.

1912 20 years of occupation supporting the government in hopes of securing a canal. As far as I know, we only ever a small force of U.S. marines there.

In 1972 we sent humantarian aid after the earthquake.
As to the Contra warriers in the 1980s - what a mess!
the National Opposition Union was backed by the U.S.

Honduras - I have been there also. They have survived over 300 internal rebellions and civil wars. U.S. banana companies practically ran the country for years. The Chiquita company (formerly the United Fruit Company) ndenounces its past publicly and even on their website. In the 1980s thousands of Contras hidout there and were operating from there using Nicaraguan refugee camps as their bases for war.
