The true beginning of GREED in America was when the colonists decided it was more important for them to enjoy the wealth of their work and not to have to pay the British any taxes. Why be loyal to ones country? We were and are ungracious and not loyal to authority as well as a nation of malcontents . We have to have it “our way”.
Now we find ourselves having to support the various governments through taxation - local, state and federal. How much of a voice do we really have in our governments activities?
I recall the words at the base of the Statue of Liberty:
Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breath free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed, to me:
I lift my lamp beside the golden door.
May I add, “Except if you are an illegal alien”! :)
