The top part of the search is the most commonly used. In some cases, you may want to retrieve the recent messages only as you may know that a specific messages was created in the last hour. Some other times you may also want to search directly with the thread number or the message number assuming someone referred it to you. If you feel you would like to help people who didn't get any reply to their message, you may want to use the unanswered messages option. It depends on your needs.
