Well, this is not for me, but an application to give away as a matter of courtesy, so I'm trying to make it very simple and intuitive. It's just this one form - and you have pointed me in the right direction. I've set the editbox's OleDragDrop mode to 1, and it started behaving like I wanted it to, without any code written. Nicely surprised. I didn't expect anything to work in this out-of-the-box manner.
