I managed to find out how to use the Identity and Default functions, both of which are ideal for what I've been trying to do, but not after I'd spent several hours trawling through various resources on the Internet. Perhaps I'm not looking in the right place but I've found it quite difficult to find exactly what I'm after, or indeed finding anything that's even close to what I'm after.

Where would be the right place to look?
