>I wanted to run this by the experts. I have overnight reports that run @ 9pm.
>I have vfp run in a loop continuously until 9pm, then reports run, then loop continues till next nite and so forth all week. Of course this puts the processor at 100% usage. Does this cause the processor to heat up and put more wear on it/shorten it's life?
In general you have several variables to consider and unknown factors as well.
1. What type of environment is the computer located in? Is it temperature controlled within specific limits?
2. The case (design) and fans used are important. Not much can be found about specifications on computer fans or case design. A good case directs the forced air onto a specific area.
3. The stability of the power source. High voltage fluctuations fro the AC mains can cause additional CPU heating.
I would venture to guess that a CPU run at 100% all of the time is subject to a decreased life span. The amount of decrease is at best a guess.
Be sure you have a good case and good fans, and a controlled environment in which the computer is located. The environmental system must be on at all times. 70 F is a good temperature for a computer server room.
I am not sure why your process must be run at all times.
