Forgot to answer this part. All my combos have either "array" or "alias" as the source.

I've been thinking a bit more about this. I think the problem is that she's typing _too quickly_. The combobox has a rather large array as the source. She clicks on the down arrow to bring up the list, then starts typing the first few letters of the last name. If she doesn't time it right, the letters get typed into the combo box instead of being used to scroll down to the right name.
