I'm brand new to Java...

Is there an equivalent to 'Winforms' from .NET that I can find in Java.

I'm coming from a VFP/.NET (C#) mindset, so everything I ask has those two tools in the back of my head.

In .NET, I can create a distibuted app with a 'smart-client' in Winforms, which talks to a web service, to get at data at the back end. I want to figure out how those types of things can be done in Java, so any sites or info resources that anyone can point me to would be terrific.

I'm guessing there are Java tools to create 'smart-client' type UIs, but I haven't had any exposure to them.

Thanks,
Kevin
