Craig,

We're trying to evaluate moving to SQL for all those other reasons you mention. Just didn't expect to pay such a large performance hit to do it. We're continuing to investigate ways to better tune our SQL methods to see if we can get it faster.

We basically perform rating on each record within rather large source text files using information within underlying rating tables. So if we can't get SQL any faster, we may take a look at importing all the underlying SQL rating tables over into VFP at the start of each rating session, rating each line of all text files and storing the resulting rated record back into SQL.
