We have a new position we're trying to fill in an expanding development environment. Following is the description. If you're interested in a full-time, permanent position in the Rockville, MD area, please contact Michael Carnazza (mcarnazza@fadv.com).

Summary
This Software Developer will use his/her experience in Visual FoxPro and SQL Server to maintain (and extend the functionality of) home-grown applications, frameworks, and utilities.

The great majority of the Software Developer’s effort would be spent on maintaining the existing legacy application, which is a combination of standard FPW, VFP, and objects, along with a SQL Server backend and an extensive web presence. Work would be divided between a number of tasks relating to this system, including performing routine fixes; regularly scheduled maintenance exercises; custom report generation; and adding new modules and functionality to extend the life of the system.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The basic functions of the position in general include:

• Design software within a mixed VFP environment
• Develop software using OOP
• Work with and maintain the database servers housing EHP data
• Work within the EHP Software Development Process, incorporating controls and peer review within each step of the SDLC (requirements, design, testing, etc.)
• Work within the specifications of the EHP Programmers Guide
• Document all requirements, design, coding, and testing thoroughly and carefully
• Contribute positively in a team-development environment
• Interact with the client community within EHP, and with EHP customer contacts when necessary

The specific tasks identified to date include:

• Design, develop and maintain components of the VMROS application environment
• Perform requirements analysis to indicated modules of VMROS
• Design and develop assigned modules

Demonstrated Experience
GUI design (5 years) Fully knowledgeable of VFP’s design surfaces and controls

Visual FoxPro (5 years) Fully knowledgeable of the VFP object model and connectivity/view issues, as well as the full suite of standard VFP functionality

COM, ActiveX, and DLLs (2 years) Building and accessing COM components and DLLs, and designing with ActiveX components

Tiered architecture (1 year) Separation of business layers into discreet objects

Large-scale backend access and management (1 year) SQL Server 2000 preferred

Preference given: XML production and management
Preference given: OOD/OOP used as primary vehicle for delivering mission critical applications
Preference given: COM+ and/or queuing architecture
Preference given: ASP/JavaScript/Web design
Preference given: WestWind Web Connection

Technical Requirements
None required beyond demonstrated experience.

Minimum Education
None required. Relevant experience is much more valuable than education in this position.

Language Skills
Clear communication in English is absolutely necessary. The developer must be able to take an active, articulate part in rapid-fire, free ranging design conversations.

Reasoning Ability
Conceptual thinking and the ability to recognize how apparently disparate aspects of the environment may relate to one another are critical components of this position. The developer must be able to recognize and rapidly translate real-world circumstances, processes, and data into a component-based object model.
