Yes, I agree.
Things are better with VFP 5 and 6, C5 errors are a lot more straitforward than this dialog... :-)

Set rant on

Anyway, without pointing anybody directly with this, I think that one of the reason behind the decline of Fox during the past years can be related to poor UI design by the devloppers. Since the Fox icon is most of the time visible everywhere in those poorly designed softwares, the users tend to associate the Fox with this kind of programs.

There is not even a consensus in the fairly basic area of icons usage for a database application.
ie: In a toolbar to add a record in a table, do you use a 'document' icon? a 'insert row' icon? a '+' icon? other icon?

To help us with this the most recent VFP (8) came with a set of icons that remind widows 3.1...

I just scratched the surface talking about icons, the problem is more on usability than bad looking interface.
Read this it's a good start on usability:

Tracy: note that I talk to you and not about you! <g>
Have a good day :)
If we exchange an apple, we both get an apple.
But if we exchange an idea, we both get 2 ideas, cool...
