I can send you these too. However, the technique is exactly the same, you just instantiate your DCOM.
No, it is not necessary to use VFPCOM.DLL in VFP8. The article was written before VFP7, and the sample you have is from my DevCon 2001 materials. If you look at the code in cmdStartCom button on the sample form, you will see that this particular sample uses EventHandler() function, not VFPCOM.DLL. It just can be done different ways in different VFP versions.
