Sadly, most of them did! Worse, the party ran more candidates next election and became the official opposition (i.e. they won the second-highest number of seats across the country (though still all in the western part of Canada))!
One very simple change that could make a huge difference would be to add a "None of the above" to ballots and to have them counted. Personally, I wouldn't care if it took 17 by-elections to get such riding (district) representation "settled". I'd even allow that the incumbent could continue sitting until it was finally decided.
I assume that you know that any "protest" votes in the form of 'spoiled' ballots are NOT counted in vote totals, so if everyone except 1 person spoiled their ballots then that single person's vote would cause the candidate they selected to win!
Anyway, it's been a much much better discussion than our past ones and that has me happy going into a weekend.
