Just a heads on "hard" processor affinity ("soft" being leave it to the OS scheduler). Its not really as simple as saying I have 4 processors so I will dedicate 1 to a specific thread of execution. You can quite easily stall the other processors and even worse create unnecessary context switches which in turn will force all levels of a processors cache to be reloaded.

However, if you can get it right then there can be measurable benifits.
