VPM is designed to use primarily remote views, which means ODBC. VPME8 adds minimal support for CursorAdapters, which can use ADO, so you might be able to get that to work.

I'm no expert on the subject, but while ADO/OLEDB may add features and access to additional data sources, I don't think it is necessarily more reliable than ODBC. IMO, for relational databases, ODBC is just fine.
