I try to avoid creating calculated fields in a report also for the reasons you mentioned. However this was a report (and VB 6 application) that I inherited and having to do some clean up on it. As time permits we will be changing the way the reports get populated, however right now the main goal is to get the report out there.

I am sure we could get into a good discussion about making time to do it "right" the first time or making time to do it a second time, however let's not go there :-)
