I just saw your posting, so if you haven't already solved your problem, here is a suggestion.

I've been working with the Microsoft Image Acquisition Automation (MIAA) interface. This includes object that you can instantiate in VFP to allow you to communicate with cameras, scanners, and the files they create. I know that there are methods to return the manufacturer and model information from the JPG file. I wouldn't be surprised if it had methods to return that info from the devices themselves.
