Hi
The page is old, but ideas are pretty actual.
I like the "dumb terminal" stuff.
I often read about LAN applications not being "scalable" because so many connections to a server needed to be handled. Agree with this one , but what about handling 1000 session states on server, this is not going to be resource consuming? Not to mention the actual size of transfered data back and forth between clients and server and then between the middleware and data server (try to see the difference between the size of messages for a day from UT as plain text and as page source - is 8+ times bigger for the second).
Related to installing ODBC, I've managed to automate this somehow for Firebird, using driver DLLs directly from shared folder, without installing it to client machines.
