It really depends on your budget. Some source control tools work better than others, in general, which makes some more expensive than others. However, inexpensive doesn't mean fewer features. CVS is free. SourceVault gets excellent reviews. After Microsoft's announcement yesterday, I would probably stay away from VSS as it looks like its days are numbered.
