Claude,

I don't wish to start an argument, as this is an emotional topic for many on this forum. I started in Fox in 1988 and consider it a great tool...but realized in 2001 that it was becoming critical to add another technology to my calling card.

I worked for a company that lost business because our vertical market app was in FoxPro. We had more functionality than our competitors, but we lost some new sales because we were in a technology that those paying the bills want no part of. One can complain about the 'injustice' of it, but it was an inescapable economic fact of life - one that some of us who elected to learn a new technology can attest first-hand.

As I believe I stated earlier, yes, you can do the same thing in VFP, since VFP8 allows you to utilize web services.

As for 'most serious web developers'...yes, if one is targeting consumers, then using a browser front-end is definitely the way to go. I don't know what percentage of web developement falls into this category, but I'm guessing it's a high percentage.

But if the target users are business users of an organization and/or members of an intranet, the use of Winforms and web-services in a distributed architecture is gaining popularity. (As always, the architectural phase for this solution is highly critical).

It can be a great solution for clients who want the desktop 'look and feel' and are looking for something web-based (and in my specific experiences, are trying to get away from things like Citrix).

One other thing - go to MSDN and look for a set of articles titled "Death of the Browser" It's all about using WinForms via a server deployment.

Kevin
