They told me I'm due to get a new workstation soon, and I basicly get pick it. I was wondering if anyone is using one of the new AMD 64 bit machines as a development workstation. My current workstation is a dual AMD 1.6 ghz machine with 512 RAM, and dual 80 gb harddrives, dual monitors, running Windows XP Pro and it is about 2 1/2 years old. I have SQL Server developer running (that is what we use for the backend for our application) with over 12 actual databases ranging in size from 400 Megs to 1.5 Gigs of data (not counting the log files). We develop in VFP 8 and play in .NET. It really doesn't need replacing for speed purposes, but I'm never one to look a gift horse in the mouth. I know there is only a 64-bit beta version of Windows XP (and I read that it is slow right now), so I imagine I would still run standard XP.
Anybody have any thoughts or experience they would like to share. I'm really interested in eventually being able to test on my workstation 64-bit SQL server with VFP for the front-end in a classic 2-tier client server envirnoment.
Thanks for any input.
