Ah, well, it seems that the saying is more universal than I thought. I thought it was a German saying; in German, it goes: "Du hast den Nagel auf den Kopf geschlagen" (you hit the nail on the head).
It is probably difficult to figure out whether the Dutch copied this saying from the Germans, the Germans from the Dutch, or both from some other source.
