On June 8, Venus will move in front of the Sun - for the first time in over a 100 years. Unfortunately, it seems that here in America we won't be able to see it.
In 8 years there will be another transit (they usually come in pairs, with 8 years separation) - but this one will be visible from parts of North America, but, again, not in the remainder of the American Continent.
Well, we will have to watch it on television, or Internet...
For those who CAN see it: don't look directly at the sun, or, even worse, through a telescope; especially the latter will most certainly ruin your eyesight. Either use very dark glasses, like those used for welding (a telescope is not required for this particular event), or project the image obtained through a telescope or binoculars onto a sheet of paper.
Difference in opinions hath cost many millions of lives: for instance, whether flesh be bread, or bread be flesh; whether whistling be a vice or a virtue; whether it be better to kiss a post, or throw it into the fire... (from Gulliver's Travels)
