In my business things are turning around very quickly. My customers no longer want web based interfaces. They will no longer accept browser UI's. They are demanding rich UI's and they could care less about how the backend works with the UI. This is very different from just a few years ago when it seemed that everyone wanted a simple browser interface. Now they want the MDI interfaces again. So in my world the browser interface is dead.
BTW VFP does not fill the bill. So far it's been Java with it's web start and simple deployment. Java does not have the nice IDE that MS .NET has but (so far) it's about the same amount of programming - which way to much. When working with Java I really miss VFP ease of use.
Don't be to quick to place Python on the back burner. It's very similar to VFP but lacks all the nice things we get with the IDE. The only major diffence is the way it deals with collections (list, tuples, and dictionaries). Currently we are using Python for all our Linux projects and have some success. It's all there but it sometimes a little diffcult to discover.
