>How do you come to a decision to develop a DLL as opposed to a pure VFP solution? If I am looking at developing C++ classes to handle math intensive routines, could I actually be making things more complicated than I have to? The type of routines would handle premium and claims processing in the area of medical/dental insurance...

Hi. The system that I've developed over that last few years is written entirely in VFP. It does costing/quoting of new groups, renewal costing, claims adjudication/payment, client, class, employee maintenance, 100's of reports, pre-authorized banking (the communications part is not pure VFP), invoicing, commission reports, accounting reports, etc. Speed has never been an issue...especially speed of calculations. We have ASO, HSA, a pay direct drug card (this is a DOS 'C' program), and great plan flexibility. The bottom line is that insurance calculations are not really high-end mathematical calculations. At least that has been my experience. I think you would "actually be making things more complicated than" you "have to".
But, it would be I nice excuse to get into C++ a little bit and get that experience :~)
Just my two cents,
Take care,
Joe
