>>FWIW, Memorial Day was originally known as Decoration Day, because people went out to the cemetary and decorated (with flowers and ribbons, presumably) the graves of the war dead. As I understand it, in much of the South, Memorial Day is still controversial. Della Martin told me about places she knew where Memorial Day was the last day of school.
