That is not an exposed property and even if you subclass it or add it to a container with a transparent background, the checkbox area still shows white. What you might try would be to subclass the checkbox and put a transparent container over the top of the checkbox in the area where the white shows. Then when you disable the checkbox make the container some opaque color of choice. That should produce the look you are after.
