I have no problem with what their company is about, with anyone moving to .Net, etc. It has nothing to do with their web site content, broken links, etc. I have a big problem with blatant advertising and the manner in which they went about it.

>I don't see this as guerilla marketing (I forget who made that specific claim) or anything of the sort. For some time now, there have been several publications, articles, sessions, etc. devoted to migrating from VFP to .NET. As I mentioned earlier, FPA has been running articles on learning .NET for months now. There's nothing really 'new' here.

>The post by Ellen today is just one more example of some people following a trend in the industry. For every handful of people who feel strongly offended by the timing, there may be an individual or two who may benefit from yet one more source of information on migrating to a new technology that is becoming increasingly more in demand.
>
>I don't see the post as an attempt to 'woo' people, nor to encourage diversion from one tool to another. Most developers don't switch tools just because of posts like this. I think it's more geared towards those who are already experiencing the trends in the market and are looking for additional information sites to enhance their skills and their careers.

>As to the hypothetical question about someone coming onto my ficticious 'Visual Kevin' forum...I think the choice of words is a bit revealing as to how much people are personalizing this issue. But to answer your question, I can safely say I'd much rather debate an issue on technical/detail merit than the way this has been debated today. Even if the timing HAD NOT coincided with the VFP9 beta, I think similar reactions would have occured - many are always looking for reasons to break out the ".NOT" jokes.
>
>Even if the content on the site is a bit light, I'm sure that will change soon, and there are already some good white papers up there. I'll close with what I said earlier today..."he who has the most choices wins".
