It seems like I ran into Stuart's problem at some point too, but I figured I was just entering the Filter wrong. Anyway, VFP9 ignores the filter for me in your test. VFP8 works as expected. Changing the Filter property to =(cust_id = 'ALFKI') makes it work, but that's obviously not backwards compatible.
