We have had some dynamically built SQL statements which used conditional logic - IIFs and such - that ran into this. I have never actually had a single typed statement that long, but some of the ones built on the fly had a problem. The logic was necessary and we had to change alias names, etc to get it to fit. Not sure in those cases if there was a better way, but it sure seemed like a pain at the time.
