VFP Book Sighting!!!!
Well sort of...
Saw Les Pinter's book on VFP to .NET migration at Barnes and Noble in Devon, PA. Kind of a good news bad news thing I guess...My BN stopped carrying VFP books about 2 years ago - and stopped carrying FPA at least a year ago. Les's book stands out - and was right there with the other .NET books.
I flipped thought it - and it looks pretty good. If you are a VFP developer who wants to get key'd in quickly to .NET - it makes for a nice start. In particular - Les did a nice job with Crystal. Overall, he hit the highlights - from a VFP perspective. I am sure the book will do well - but I doubt any non-VFP'ers will give it a serious look. On the other hand, people who know that they have aging Fox apps may buy it on impulse.
If Sams took on this book project, it was for one reason - and one reason only. In their opinion, the only growth segment related to VFP are those scenarios that are moving FROM VFP - not to VFP. This is actually a pretty big deal considering all of the whining that has occured with the major publishers dumping Fox-related books.
My other question is why isn't there any angst over the book by the faithful here? Why is it only reserved for some?
In any case, Les, if you are listening....nice job!!
John
