If you never worked with VB in the past, I suggest you to choose C# because :
1. It's similar to C, C++ and above all Java
2. It's the preferred .NET language
3. It was designed from scratch without any legacy dependency like VB
4. It's shorter to type : less words and thus the code seems much clearer to read.
