There's no way to discuss this problem in generic terms because we don't know how your queries look like and how they can be implemented efficiently on SQL Server. Again, roundtrip time for queries may or may not be a factor depending on the time query itself requires. You can reduce it to one call if you return multiple sets. Moving a query to SP may decrease time significantly because all the processing will be done on more powerful hardware.
I can go on and on but as I said it's pointless.
