I have been playing with MailSlots and Names Pipes but they seem to suffer from an unexpected delay of around 60-150ms when called from VFP.

The Server is looping around a ReadFile() waiting for input, this loop takes 4ms so the ReadFile() is being called every 4ms and when there is data to read the SECONDS() are displayed. There is also a seperate (client) instance of Fox that writes to this file using WriteFile() and displays the SECONDS(). Unfortunately there is normally this unexpacted delay.

This feels like a Fox induced problem in that during testing I sometimes got this delay down to zero by very frequently clicking the mouse.
