This is going to be a long message, but I'm trying to answer questions before they're asked :-)

We just installed a VFP50a system on an NT network with Win95 workstations. Each workstation has at least 32MB RAM.

The program uses a Visual MaxFrame framework, and has 5 main tables with about 150,000 records each. Most of the work is done with SQL to cursors, followed by transaction updating on from 5 to 200 records at a time.

At peak usage there are 5-8 active (data changing) users and another 5-10 passive (Reports, viewing) users on the system. Reports are mainly FoxFire, using multi-table SQL.

PROBLEM:
Speed of each component on the network is fine. However, when everything is working together we are getting network lock signals on our 2 main tables. If we're trying to do an internal SQL, the user's screen 'hangs' for seconds. If it occurs when a form is being loaded the VMF error system closes the EXE. If we are 'live' in VFP we get a message at the bottom of the screen: "Unable to access record, please wait".

We THINK it may have to do with the transactions, which are holding up to 400 individual changes before the END TRANS code, but aren't sure. Is this a network setup problem? A coding problem?

Any suggestions cheerfully accepted, and TIA!!!
