I think the convention is that left mouse drag and drop performs a default action, whereas right mouse drag and drop offers a context menu, typically (but not necessarily) including Copy, Move, Create Shortcut, and Cancel. Also note the special key combinations, e.g. Ctrl + left drag and drop Copies, and there are others, but I don't recall them offhand. These are useful conventions when implemented properly. I found it to be quite tricky to override the default right-click context menu and actually make use of it in VFP6, but it can be done with a bit of a kludge.
