The definition that I see is "to approach and speak to boldly, aggressively, confrontationally". There is a secondary definition "to solicit for sex".

John asked the question as part of a Q&A at a conference, where there were many questions asked.

At the very least, it was a poor choice of words, and totally mis-characterizes what occured.
