I believe the problem I am having in opening an indexed view on a server is a question of proper permissions, but I think I will have better luck seeking guidance here than from the network admin who know nothing of VFP, dbfs etc
Workstations are XP pro, server is Win2003 (though have same problem if server is XP Pro) Only three or so users.
I have an EXE which runs locally on the workstations. Views are in their own DBC. Views DBC is compiled into EXE. App in VFE, so indexes on views are created from metadata when the view is opened by the app.
DBFs and associated DBC live in a folder on the server. User of app has full read/write/modify/create permission to that folder. From explorer on user I can create/delete files in data folder on server. On XP server version folder with data is shared with permission wide open for all users as far as I can tell.
When the app tries to open an indexed view, it fails when it tries to create the server-side tmp file. (the TMPFILEs setting in config goes back to workstation. That part works) Without the index on the view everything works fine.
I set up the same situation here in my office everything works fine - but the XP box I am using as the "server" as it's whole HD shared with my internal network so that may not be an fair test.
I am sure the config I'm describing is not unusual so I am sure this is the place where a lot of folks know the answer.
Guidance appreciated.

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
